et cetera » alter ego
The subject of this shrine is not only a seemingly fan favourite (repeatedly ranking third place in official fan polls), but it also looks like she's highly regarded by her creator. Besides her role in the main storyline, Hawkeye gets to find her way into some specific omake (extras), as well as display a couple of alter egos inside the plot itself.
The Mustang Team has a tendency of going undercover when the situation calls for it — undercover
from the military, on top of all. At those times, Roy likes to use his fame as a womanizer as a way to be able to communicate with his team without arising suspicion. To make it work, each of them is assigned a code name — a girl's name to be precise.
Hawkeye's code name is
Elizabeth, which comes with a rather playful form of roleplay by her. Actually, its use is not limited to undercover missions, since Roy also uses the name as a way to refer to his First Lieutenant without being obvious about it. At least he
thinks he's not being obvious.
This one could possibly fit better in the
other media section, but seeing as it permeates manga canon I saw fit to include it here too. Another alias of Hawkeye's is
Margott Orange Peko, an identity used to go undercover in the Playstation 2 game
Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel. Just as with a good portion of the games, Arakawa drew a prologue in the form of a short manga to introduce the game. Although not canon, Arakawa did design the original characters.
During the Elric Brothers and Ling's confrontation with Gluttony and Bradley (volume 12), Hawkeye borrowed a pair of glasses from Fuery's hideout and let her hair down. A disguise that strongly resembles the one used for Margott.
The last of Hawkeye's alternate personas is one that appears in the series' omake (extras) included in a couple of published volumes and guidebooks. Known as
Riza-sensei (Professor Riza), she's in charge of sharing a bit of science knowledge with the fans. She enlightens us about highly interesting topics such as the effects of oxygen toxicity (Perfect Guidebook 2) or how to build a homemade magnet using automail (volume 16).
Teach us, Riza-sensei!
