Edward and Alphonse Elric are two young alchemists who paid the price for attempting human transmutation. Now, while on their quest to get their original bodies back, they arrive at Reole, a small villaged ruled by a self-proclaimed miracle-worker messenger of god named Cornello.

002. the price of a life

Cornello is, of course, no miracle-worker, as he's using alchemy along with a mysterious amplifier to work his so-called miracles. Ed and Al suspect it may be the Philosopher's Stone, and so they plan to take it from him. At the end, it turns out to be a fake and Ed and Al continue with their journey. A couple of homunculi, Lust and Gluttony, were the ones using Cornello.

003. the coal mine town

The brothers next arrive to Yous Well, a small town inhabited by coal miners mostly. They are oppressed by a First Lieutenant named Yoki, who is the cause of their poverty. Ed and Al devise a plan to pay him back for his evil deeds.

004. shajou no tatakai
004. battle on the train

A train with East City as destination has been hijacked, and General Haruko and his family have been taken hostage by the leader of an eastern radical group called the "Blue Group". Colonel Roy Mustang (also the Flame Alchemist) is in charge of the situation, but he's relieved to find out the Fullmetal Alchemist is also on board of the train and leaves it to the two alchemists to deal with.
