After Envy and Lust get rid of Number 66, they admit Edward shouldn't have seen that place, but that they won't kill him anyway since he's "precious material" for their project. Outside, Alphonse is shaken up by Barry's words: that his memories might be made up by his brother. Ross and Brosh arrive at that moment, when the whole building starts collapsing. Envy brings Edward out while unconscious and they all manage to escape safely. Once in the hospital, Edward gets reprimanded by both Ross and Brosh for abusing Armstrong's kindness by ignoring his orders. Later, Edward phones Winry asking for some maintenance for his broken automail.

Winry arrives to Central City to repair Ed's automail only to find out he's at the hospital after being injured. Meanwhile, Alphonse is facing his own personal hell as he's starting to really believe all his memories may be created by his brother. After phoning Roy to inform him about the situation in Central (he forgets to tell him Ed is hospitalized), Hughes drops by to pay Edward a visit. He ends up inviting Winry to his daughter's birthday. When she comes back to the hospital, Winry finds the brothers in the middle of a painful confrontation.

Alphonse ends up blowing up in front of his brother, accusing him of having artificially created his memories and not telling him. Edward leaves Al and Winry and goes to the hospital's roof alone. Winry goes postal, and hits Alphonse while telling him off, saying he's an idiot for believing that. The question Edward was keeping from Al, was if he blamed him for what happened to them. Alphonse chases after Edward and the brothers make up once everything is cleared up.

Suddenly, Fuhrer King Bradley appears asking them to only trust whatever information they're obtaining to him, since he's also worried about the Military's safety. Hughes keeps investigating, till something catches his attention. Lust arrives just then to silence him, but Hughes manages to escape. He's about to call the Fuhrer, when he realizes something and goes outside to phone Roy instead. Before he can get to speak to Roy, though, Envy appears.

Edward, Alphonse and Winry take a train to Dublith to meet up with their master, stopping at Rush Valley along the way. Meanwhile, Roy and Hawkeye go to Central to attend Hughes' funeral. They have a talk with Armstrong, who tries to inform them while not being able to talk because of the Fuhrer's orders. Roy makes up his mind to capture whoever is behind Hughes' murder and keep pursuing his goal at the same time. He tells Hawkeye he's about to be assigned to Central and asks if she'll follow him. He didn't even need to ask. At the same time, Scar is staying at an Ishvarite reservation near East City after being saved by some of his fellow survivors.

Fuery finds a little abandoned puppy shivering in the rain and takes him to East City Headquarters to look for an owner for the dog (he can't keep it since he lives in a dormitory). After asking everyone around, from the Elric brothers to Roy, he finally settles on Hawkeye. She names him Black Hayate and warns Fuery that she'll be strict.
