Edward realizes he's forgot about his annual National Alchemist Assessment, and so he must travel to the headquarters in South City to deliver it somehow. Alphonse stays in Dublith and is approached by three mysterious people who claim to know his "secret". Yoki tries to sell Scar off for the reward, but the Ishvarite gets rid of his pursuers and finally decides to leave the Ishvarite reservation.

Greed wants Alphonse to tell him the secret of his supposed "immortal body", but the boy tells him it was his brother who did the transmutation and he's not there at the moment. Meanwhile, Izumi finds out about Al's kidnapping and goes to the Devil's Nest to kick some asses. Edward finds Major Armstrong at South City and gets his assessment signed straight away by Fuhrer King Bradley himself, who was in the south for an inspection.

Greed finally offers a trade to Izumi. Edward will hand over his knowledge about soul transmutation and he in exchange will reveal to him how homunculi are created. Despite not being very happy over this, Izumi leaves. Next day, Edward arrives to Dublith and takes notice that Armstrong and the Fuhrer have followed him (so he can meet his master, Bradley explains). Ed is told about his brother's kidnapping and sets of to the Devil's Nest immediately. He right away refuses to make the exchange and engages in a fight with Greed. Meanwhile, the Fuhrer, having found out about the whole mess, has his troops ready to attack the Devil's Nest too.
