Alphonse tries his best to protect Martel from the Fuhrer, but he ultimately finishes her, just as he did with the rest of Greed's subordinates. To add to the trauma, the moment the chimera's blood comes in contact with Alphonse's seal, he recovers his memories about the night the brothers tried to revive their mother. As Ed and Al are left alone by the Fuhrer with no visible further consequences, Hawkeye unexpectedly meets Barry the Chopper.

Roy, Hawkeye and Falman make sure Barry the Chopper is what he claims to be and make a deal with him in order to get information and maybe lure their enemies out. Meanwhile, some place deep under main Headquarters in Central, King Bradley brings Greed to be judged for his treason by their "Father". Not wanting to go back working with them, Greed is finally sent back where he came from: Father's soul.

A strange little girl with a minuscule panda shows up in Yous Well. She claims to have crossed the desert all the way from the Xing Empire in search for The Way of Immortality. Being a type of alchemist herself, she eventually decides to search for Edward Elric (or rather, the fairytale fantasy Ed she's build in her brain) to learn about Amestris' alchemy.

Edward and Alphonse visit Winry in Rush Valley in order to have Ed's automail repaired. She decides to go with them to Central afterwards, so they take a walk around the city to kill time. It's then when they come across a young boy almost dying of starvation, who turns out to be another traveler from Xing called Ling Yao. He's also searching for The Way of Immortality and he'll do anything to obtain it, including ordering his bodyguards to attack Ed and Al.

After a rather flashy confrontation all across Rush Valley, Edward and Alphonse manage to capture Ling's bodyguards, Lan Fan and Fu. Ling chooses a temporal retreat, to re-think his strategy. He finally appears again before the brothers and (forcefully) offers to accompany them wherever they're going, so he can obtain more information about this so-called Way of Immortality. It's not like the brothers have any choice, anyway. Meanwhile, Scar and Yoki are also headed to Central.
